Dinosaur Wallpapers

Dinosaur is a group of archosaur reptiles that first appeared in the Mesozoic era, the only living members of which were birds. The name dinosaur is derived by Richard Owen from combining two Greek words meaning "terrible lizard" (deinos + sauros). This is because, in the past, scientists thought dinosaurs were lizards. Dinosaurs arose in the Late Triassic period, 243-233 million years ago, and all but birds went extinct 66 million years ago. It is accepted that dinosaurs are mesothermal creatures that show characteristics between warm-blooded and cold-blooded.

We do not know when dinosaurs first caught societies' attention; however, it is possible to make certain assumptions starting from Antiquity. Some historians and paleontologists speculate that when fossils of Protoceratops from the Late Cretaceous to the Campanian period were found, they might have found their reflection in Greco-Roman culture.

In 676, Robert Plot, a priest at Oxford University, thought that a thigh bone known today as belonging to a dinosaur was the remains of a Roman war elephant. Examples can be multiplied; however, the peak point of dinosaurs and natural sciences is the beginning of the 19th century. With the contribution of the English naturalist Richard Owen, dinosaurs became the subject of serious scientific research for the first time because he was the one who coined the term dinosaur. The first dinosaur fossil to be scientifically studied is Megalosaurus, this middle Jurassic carnivore discovered by William Buckland. The scientific process of identifying dinosaurs, which began with a handful of missing specimens in the last 200 years, is now represented in huge numbers, with at least 800 genera and almost 1,000 species. This large group of living things is still involved in an evolutionary process that may change with recent findings.

It is considered a remarkable achievement that dinosaurs adapted to the environment to a great extent and filled all niches in ecological terms. Again, the genus Stegosaurus became extinct with the extinction of cycad-derived plants, which were the main diet of late Jurassic dinosaurs. The most compelling evolutionary story of dinosaurs is that they did not go extinct completely. Today, in many scientific studies, birds are assumed to be living descendants of dinosaurs. With the discovery of the first bird, Archeopteryx lithographica, the preserved feathers in the fossil sparked a severe debate years later, and many studies were conducted on whether dinosaurs were thought to be cold-blooded scaly, and clumsy creatures for years, could be closely related to birds. The recent discovery of many feathered dinosaurs in China, and feather root projections on the arm bones of dinosaurs, similar to the feather formation on birds' wings, is one of the essential examples. Such a kinship has been scientifically proven as a result of the fact that the finger structures on the forearms of dinosaurs, which are genetically obvious to be closely related to birds, resemble those of birds, and that many dinosaurs were warm-blooded like birds with the help of the regions they lived in and fossils.
