Christmas is a Christian holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus on December 25 each year. It is also known as the Feast of the Nativity, the Holy Nativity, or the Feast of Christ. From the beginning of the 20th century, Christmas began to be celebrated as a holiday that was also celebrated by non-Christians, free of religious motifs, and concentrated around the exchange of gifts. Today's Christmas celebrations are quite colorful in Christian countries. Christmas preparations start months in advance. The period when Christians await the birth of Jesus is called the advent period, and advent calendars with 24 windows are prepared. In these calendars, pictures or sweets are hidden behind each window, one of them pops up every day. Advent candles are lit in some countries.

Before Christmas, plays are staged in schools in which the birth of Jesus is performed. In these plays, the coming of Jesus to the world in a barn and the three astrologers from the east bringing gifts to Jesus are portrayed. Choirs of children or adults sing Christmas carols in churches and in the streets. People throw Christmas parties, especially on the weekends before Christmas.

On the afternoon of December 25, Christmas dinner is prepared, and family members gather around the table in many countries. The Christmas dinner varies from country to country, but the most common are roast turkey and sausage. In some countries, it is ignited by pouring brandy on the cake (Christmas pudding) served as a dessert after the meal.

Gifts left under the Christmas Tree are exchanged on Christmas day. Gifts and sweets are put inside giant socks for little kids. Children are told that Santa brings these gifts.
