What is an ASO audit?
App store optimization (ASO) is making your store listing easier to find and more convincing once people find it. An audit goes through the listing the way the store and a visitor see it, and points out what holds it back.
What the audit checks
| Area | Google Play | App Store |
|---|---|---|
| Title & text | Title (30), short description (80), description (4,000), promotional words, keyword repetition, What’s new | App name (30), subtitle (30), overlap between them, description, What’s New |
| Visuals | Screenshots, promo video, feature graphic | iPhone and iPad screenshots |
| Ratings | Average rating, number of ratings, share of 1-star ratings | |
| Maintenance & trust | Last update, privacy policy, website | Last update, website, languages, app size |
| Keywords | Where each keyword appears and your search rank (top 30) | Where each keyword appears and your search rank (top 100) |
How the score works
Each check has a weight: 3 for what matters most, like the title and screenshots, down to 1 for details. A pass earns the full weight, a warning half and a failure nothing. The score is the share of points earned; 90 and up is an A.
What the audit can’t see
- The App Store keyword field (100 characters) isn’t public. Don’t repeat words from the name and subtitle there.
- Conversion rates, store listing experiments and search volume are only in Play Console and App Store Connect.
- Screenshot quality: the audit counts them, but only a person can judge whether they sell the app.
