Crystallography is used to measure crystal surfaces and understand crystal symmetry. Its crystal structure is determined by the network and the conditions formed by the crystal.

The largest concentrations of crystals on Earth are part of bedrock by volume and weight. The sizes of crystals found in rocks usually range from one millimeter to several centimeters. But it is possible to see huge crystals.

The world's largest known naturally occurring crystal is a beryl crystal, 18 m long, 3.5 m in diameter, and 380,000 kg in weight, seen in 1999 at Malakialina, Madagascar.
