The galaxy is the name given to the system consisting of stars, interstellar gas, dust, and plasma bound together by gravitational force, interstellar matter, and dark matter, which is still poorly understood. Typical galaxies can contain between 10 million (dwarf galaxies) and one trillion (giant galaxies) stars, and all the stars organized in a galaxy move in orbits centered on that galaxy's center of mass. Galaxies may also have various multiple star systems, star clusters, and various nebulae. The Sun, orbiting different cosmic bodies such as planets and asteroids, is just one of the similar stars in the Milky Way Galaxy.
Historically, galaxies have been grouped according to their visible shape. One of the most common shapes in this grouping is the elliptical galaxy, whose light profile is oval. Spiral galaxies are disk-shaped structures with dusty and curved arms.
Irregular or unusually shaped galaxies are considered "odd galaxies" and are typically formed by the gravitational shape disinformation of neighboring galaxies. In such movements between galaxies close to each other, the galaxies in question may be integrated. Starburst galaxies may arise with the triggering of such increases called "explosions" in star formation events. In addition, it is possible to speak of small galaxies that do not have a periodic structure as irregular galaxies.
It is estimated that there are over 100 billion galaxies in the Observable Universe. Most galaxies have a radius of between 1,000 and 100,000 parsecs and are usually located millions of parsecs apart. Most galaxies form assemblages called "clusters" connected by gravity; they also form superclusters connected thanks to the gravitational effect. These larger structures also emerged as layers and filamentous structures surrounding large spaces in the universe.
While dark matter is not yet very well defined, it appears that dark matter accounts for about 90% of the mass of most galaxies. Observational data scientifically suggest that giant black holes may exist in some galaxy centers. It turns out that such a black hole also exists in the core of our Milky Way galaxy.
