Rose is a unique name given to a woody perennial angiosperm, fragrant plant species of the genus Rosa of the Rosaceae family.

Most rose species are native to Asia. A smaller number of other rose species grow in Europe, North America, and Northwest Africa. Roses are widely grown for their beauty and fragrance and have cultural significance and status in many societies. Roses are used to decorating parks and gardens and decorate rooms, balconies. Roses have many different colors. It is a very demanded kind of flower in cut floriculture.

The red rose has been the emblem of love and romance since it was first used in weddings in the 1800s. But this relationship between love and rose actually originates from much earlier times. Greek mythology mentions that the word "rose", which means rose in English, comes from the word "Eros". We all know Eros, the Greek god who made people fall in love. According to the legend, roses grow in the place of those whom Eros hit with the love potion. Morever, it is rumored that the goddess of love, Aphrodite, also wandered around with Eros. Everywhere these two passed, white roses grew. Until one day, Apollo, Aphrodite's lover, was injured and dyed all these white roses red with his blood. Then red roses appeared where there was love.

The oldest rose branch is thought to have continued to grow outside Hildesheim Cathedral in Germany for over 1000 years.

In 2006, famous rose grower David Austin sold the world's most expensive rose, which he named Juliet, at auction for around five million dollars.

Roses can be in various colors: red, pink, white, yellow, orange, and purple. Black rose can only be produced in Turkey in the world. This magnificent rose, which grows in the Halfeti district of Şanlıurfa, blooms in this color due to the soil texture and climate of the region.

In 2002, a miniature rose called "Overnight Scentsation" was sent into space by a cosmetics company to investigate how the zero-gravity environment affects the scent of roses. When the result was extraordinary, the company decided to make a perfume from this fragrance.
