Fire is the name given to the state of high temperature and rapid combustion, which often gives off the fire. The old Turkish word “od” is also used in the same sense from time to time. Fire is one of the indispensable parts of human life, and taking it under control has led to the emergence of civilization.
It is thought that mankind's first encounter with fire started with a lightning strike thousands of years ago, and fires that occurred for similar reasons have been the only source of fire in the world for a very long time. For many years, the primitive man called Pekin man, who lived about 500 thousand years ago, was accepted as the first person to use fire consciously; however, evidence found in Kenya in 1981 and South Africa in 1988 revealed that primitive humans called hominids used fire in a controlled manner 1.42 million years ago. Humankind was unaware of efficient fire-making techniques until 7000 BC. It is assumed that Neolithic man was able to make fire with saw and drill movements and flint-pyrite. However, in this period, it was more reasonable to keep the fire burning than to rekindle it.
It is not known whether the idea of starting a fire came about when rubbing the flint on the pyrites or when trying to dig a hole in the tree. Flame drills have been found, as well as flint and pyrites, at Neolithic sites in Europe. The most common method of making a fire in primitive societies was the method of rubbing combustors and burners together. The fire piston, which produces heat and flame by compressing air in a small bamboo tube, was a complex device developed and used in Southeast Asia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. Completely independent of this, a metal fire piston was also developed in Europe in the 1800s.
In order for fire to occur, a combustible substance must come into contact with oxygen at the ignition temperature. If fuel and oxygen are constantly present and in contact, continuous combustion occurs. It is possible to extinguish a flame, to eliminate fuel and oxygen from the elements that cause combustion, to reduce the temperature.
