Although stun guns have been in widespread use by law enforcement for some time now, civilians are increasingly purchasing them for use in self-defense as well. The vast majority of people in the United States are allowed to own stun guns. This is especially true since recent court decisions said that these weapons are covered by the right to bear arms in the Second Amendment.
A stun gun is a device that resembles a pistol and fires small darts or probes that are attached to thin wires that are flexible. When the darts are successful in penetrating the target, electricity will flow through the wires. Electric pulses are transmitted between the probes, and the target is rendered helpless as a result of the disruption caused to their neuromuscular system by these pulses. Once the probes have been properly positioned, the user of the stun gun will be able to send multiple cycles of electric current. Consumer versions of stun guns have a range of up to 15 feet and can hit their target.
