The lesser whistling duck, sometimes called the Indian whistling duck or lesser whistling teal, is a species of whistling duck that breeds in Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent. Other names for this duck are lesser whistling teal and lower whistling teal. They are nocturnal feeders that can be observed in flocks surrounding lakes and moist rice fields during the daytime. This brown duck has a long neck and broad wings that are apparent when it is flying. It also has a powerful two-note wheezy call. The two-note wheezy calls that they make inspired the locals of India to give them names like Sili and Silhahi. They will move around and respond to whistles after being kept in captivity for a long enough period of time.
