The most entertaining sounds are those of sparrows and other birds. The sounds of a sparrow can be heard in the city, the forest, and the village all at the same time. The proximity of other individuals of the same species influences the sparrow's choice of vocalizations, both in terms of pitch and volume. Sparrows can produce a wide range of sounds. The music/song The songbird has a raucous, clattering song that typically consists of two to six phrases, begins with abrupt, well-spaced notes, and typically finishes with a buzz or trill. In the spaces in between, the singer might throw in some additional trills of a different tempo and caliber.
Both males and females of the sparrow species make a high-pitched, chipping sound when they are excited or when a potential threat is nearing their nest. This sound is used to communicate fear or alarm. During the process of nest-building, or when another female is invading their territory, the females will harshly chatter at their partners. Birds that are young or subordinate produce a softer, tsip-like call.
