It is possible for a cuckoo chick's call to be so loud and insistent when it is looking for food that it will convince other birds to feed it in addition to its foster parent. The male cuckoo is well-known for its recognizable "koo-kooo" call, which has been replicated by watchmakers and clockmakers all over the world (the cuckoo clock, whereby rather than the clock chiming, it will make a koo-kooo sound). The pace of the entire series is fairly slow and continues to pick up only toward the very end; phone calls can last for up to eight seconds. A metallic, rattling call and a series of kow-kow-kow notes that sound like a metal door knocker hitting a strike plate are produced by both members of nesting pairs.
