About Meyasumi: 20-20-20 Eye Rest
When you are deep in work on a computer or a phone, it is easy to forget to stop. Meyasumi (Eye Rest) is a simple break reminder and timer for the 20-20-20 rule. It gives you a nudge to rest your eyes between tasks during desk work or remote work.
WHO IT IS FOR
- Your eyes get tired after long hours on a computer or phone
- You forget to take breaks during desk work or remote work
- You want an alert that tells you when to rest
- You do not want fiddly settings or a "start" button every morning
- You want a quiet reminder that does not get in the way
WHAT THE 20-20-20 RULE IS
Every 20 minutes, look at something about 20 feet (roughly 6 metres) away for about 20 seconds, and let your eyes rest. It is a widely shared guideline. It is not a guarantee of any effect. If pain or discomfort in your eyes continues, please see an eye doctor rather than putting up with it.
HOW MEYASUMI WORKS
- Set your working hours once. There is no "start" and "finish" to press every morning
- Only during those hours, every 20 minutes, it says it is time to look far away
- It stays silent outside your hours and at night
- Tap the reminder and a 20-second screen opens
- You can see how many rests you took today (the count never goes down)
EXAMPLE
1. First, set your working hours
2. Work on your computer or phone as usual
3. When the reminder arrives every 20 minutes, look into the distance
4. Tap the reminder and rest your eyes on the 20-second screen
5. Look back at how many rests you took today
WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT
- No "start" or "finish" to press. You only set your working hours
- Reminders come only every 20 minutes within those hours, and never disturb your evenings
- The rest screen lasts 20 seconds, short enough to keep your flow
- The rest count never goes down. You just look back quietly at how many you took today
HOW TO KEEP IT UP
- At first, simply set your working hours
- When a reminder arrives, look away from the screen at the window or the far side of the room
- Missing a day is fine. Nothing scolds you
- If reminders do not arrive, check that notifications are allowed for the app in your device settings
WHEN IT HELPS
- Working from home, when hours pass in front of the screen without you noticing
- During focused work such as writing documents or programming, when it is hard to stop
- When you want to build a habit of resting your eyes between study or work
- When you do not want notifications at night (it stays silent outside your hours)
GENTLE BY DESIGN
- It does not rush you and does not scold you
- No AI is used (it makes no judgements and no diagnoses)
- Records stay inside this device only, and are never sent anywhere
- No ads. Free to use
- No sign-up or login
