About Kakitori: Hiragana Writing AI
A practice book that marks hiragana writing inside this device. Practise hiragana and check stroke order in a way that feels like a game. It also works as a hiragana practice and early learning app for small children.
WHO IT IS FOR
- You want to learn to write hiragana, or you want your child to practise
- You want to check that you remember the stroke order correctly
- You want to trace a model and learn the shape of a neat character
- You want to practise on your phone as well as with worksheets and drills
- You want a learning app with no ads and no network that is safe to hand to a child
PRACTICE LIKE A GAME
- Ten characters, the A row and the KA row, practised in three stages: trace, copy, remember
- Trace: follow along a faint model
- Copy: write in the blank square while looking at the model
- Remember: the model is hidden, so you write from memory
- What you write is looked at for its shape (how close it is to the model) and for the stroke order
- The result comes back kindly, in three levels: got it, close, once more
A LITTLE ADVICE ALONG THE WAY
- If you wrote too few or too many strokes, the app quietly says so
- If the stroke order is off or a line runs the wrong way, it gently points that out
- It also tells you when a line goes outside the square
- A mistake is never scolded. You can try again as many times as you like
THREE STAGES, IN ORDER
Writing with nothing to look at is hard at first. So you start with Trace to get used to the shape and flow of the lines, then Copy to write by hand while looking at the model, and finally Remember to write without it. Taking it step by step helps the shape and stroke order of each hiragana settle in.
WHAT IT LOOKS AT
- Shape: how close it is to the model
- Stroke order: the order of the lines and the direction they run
- Stroke count: whether the number of lines is right
The result is one of three kind levels: got it, close, once more. You are encouraged, and you can try again.
EXAMPLE
1. Choose the character you want to practise
2. Start with Trace to get used to the shape of the model
3. Move on to Copy and write while looking at the model
4. Try Remember and write without the model
5. If the result says once more, repeat the practice
SAID PLAINLY
- Stops, hooks and sweeps are not looked at in this version (the screen says so, always)
- The marking happens inside this device, and nothing is ever sent out
- No feature here needs a connection
- You can practise ten characters: the A row and the KA row
MADE TO BE SAFE TO USE
- No camera, no photos, no location, no recording, no notifications
- No ads
- Practice records are kept inside this device
- No sign-up or login
