About Stitchkeep: Cross Stitch Log

Every time you sit back down to a paper chart, the first job is finding where you left off. Highlighter marks, a ruler, a page of tiny symbols. Over a months-long project, that adds up. Stitchkeep moves the highlighter onto your phone so the chart you already own keeps your place for you.

WHAT IT DOES

- Photograph a paper chart. Stitchkeep finds the grid, lays it over the photo, and groups squares that share a symbol.
- Tap or swipe over the stitches you finished. Each square gives a small haptic tick and the progress percentage updates right there.
- Filled squares stay translucent, so the symbol underneath is still readable.
- Wrong square? Use the eraser, or undo.
- Close the app and come back later: the same chart, the same spot, the same zoom, the same selected symbol.

WHEN THE GRID IS NOT FOUND

Some photos will not scan cleanly, whether the print is faint or the page was shot at an angle. Type the stitch count printed on the chart edge, drag the four corner handles onto the chart corners, and you are in. Charts set up this way get exactly the same marking, progress, undo, and position restore. If you already know the count, this route is often faster from the start. Photos already in your library and pages from purchased PDF charts come in the same way.

ONE COLOR AT A TIME

Working cross country with a single thread? Turn on Show only this symbol. The squares for that symbol stay bright while everything else fades back. You also see how many of that symbol remain and roughly when it will be done at your current pace.

The whole chart gets a finish estimate too. It looks at how many of the last 14 days you stitched and how many squares a typical session covers, then gives a date range rather than a single day. No estimate appears until at least two days of stitching are logged, and there is never a nudge telling you that you are behind. Stitchkeep never asks which thread number a symbol is. Your paper key already knows.

YOUR WIP SHELF

Charts in progress sit side by side as cards showing a small progress map, the percentage, and the last day you stitched. Finished pieces move to their own Completed section. A sample chart we drew ourselves is included from the first launch, so you can try marking before you have a paper chart in hand. A home screen widget shows the progress and remaining stitches for your current chart, and the medium widget adds today's count and the finish estimate.

WHAT IT COVERS

Stitchkeep is built for full coverage cross stitch, where every square gets a cross. Backstitch, fractional stitches, French knots, and beads do not map to squares, so they are not marked in the app. Keep your original chart alongside for those.

YOUR CHARTS STAY YOURS

Chart photos and stitch records are stored on this phone. There is no account. Grid and symbol detection run on the device, and the app does not upload your photos. The only way a chart leaves the phone is a backup file you create: restore it on a new phone, or wipe everything from Settings to start fresh. There is no feature for sharing or posting charts. This is a tool for stitching charts you bought from designers, on your own phone.

FREE, WITH NOTHING ATTACHED

No ads, no in-app purchases, no subscription. Dark Mode for long evenings, VoiceOver support for moving row by row and marking or erasing stitches, and full respect for Larger Text and Reduce Motion settings.

What’s new

Version 1.0.0 · Updated October 1, 2026

Welcome to the first version of Stitchkeep. Photograph a cross stitch chart you own and the app finds the grid and lines it up over your photo. If the grid doesn't come out right, you can line it up yourself. Mark off finished stitches with your fingertip and your progress and stitches left update right away. After a few days of marking, you'll also get an estimated finish. No subscription, and your chart photos and progress are saved on this phone.
