QuietCheck puts a small light on your home screen that stands for your mother's or your father's day. When they pick up their phone, that light warms up a little. Nothing all morning? The light is simply dim, and you know to give them a call. You never have to open the app to find out.

HOW THE LIGHT WORKS

Their phone quietly reports two things: that it was used, and how much battery is left. That is the whole of it. The widget turns those moments into brightness — brighter right after they have been on their phone, fading gently as hours pass with nothing. Open the app for the fuller picture: today's status, when the last sign of life arrived, a row of dots showing the rhythm of the day, and a seven-day summary.

YOUR PARENT NEVER PRESSES ANYTHING

This is the part most elderly check in apps get wrong. There is no daily "I'm OK" button to remember, no message to answer, no streak to keep. You set their phone up once — easiest while you are visiting — and afterwards they use their phone exactly the way they always have. Using it is the check in. No account is created for them either: their phone holds a device link, not a login.

WHAT LEAVES THEIR PHONE, AND WHAT NEVER DOES

Sent: the times the phone was awake, battery level, whether it is charging.
Never sent: location, which apps they open, contacts, photos, messages.

There is no location feature anywhere in this app and no column for one in our database. Your parent reads that list on their own screen before anything begins, and agrees on their own device. One tap on "Disconnect" over there stops everything and erases what was already sent. Raw signals are deleted after 30 days regardless.

IF THE DAY GOES QUIET

Ask for a nudge after 6, 12, or 24 hours without a sign of life — 12 hours to begin with. Overnight hours are excluded, so an ordinary night's sleep never wakes you at 3 a.m. And if the last thing that came through was a nearly empty battery, the notification says so, because a dead phone is not the same thing as a quiet day.

SHARE IT WITH YOUR SIBLINGS

Send them the family code and they see the same feed and receive the same nudges. Caring for aging parents from a distance goes better when it is not one person's job.

Free. No subscription, no ads, no account for your parent. Living alone is easier for everyone to accept when the people who love you can glance at a light and feel fine about the rest of the day.

QuietCheck is not a medical device, a caregiver alarm, or an emergency service, and a quiet day does not mean something is wrong — most often it means the phone stayed on the table. When you want to know how they really are, call them. This only tells you whether today looks like every other day.
