About Dime Game

Should you ask? Should you say no? And how hard should you push?

The Dime Game is a skill from Dialectical Behavior Therapy that turns that fog into a
clear answer. You weigh ten factors about your situation, and the app maps your answers
onto a 1-10 scale of intensity — from "don't ask, don't hint" all the way to "ask firmly
and don't take no for an answer."

HOW IT WORKS
1. Choose whether you're asking for something or saying no.
2. Answer ten yes-or-no questions about your situation.
3. Get a recommended intensity, plus a summary of which factors were in your favor.

It takes about a minute.

THE TEN FACTORS
Capability · Priorities · Self-respect · Rights · Authority · Relationship ·
Long-term goals · Give and take · Homework · Timing

Each factor is phrased differently depending on whether you're making a request or
turning one down — the same way the skill is taught in DBT skills groups.

WHY IT HELPS
Most of us miss in one of two directions: we cave when we should hold firm, or we push
hard when letting it go would have cost us less. The Dime Game slows the decision down
just enough to see it clearly, and gives you language for what you decided and why.

BUILT TO STAY OUT OF YOUR WAY
• No account, no sign-up
• Works completely offline
• Collects nothing — your answers never leave your phone, and aren't even saved once
you close the app
• No ads, no subscriptions, no tracking

WITH THANKS
To the staff at the UPMC Jameson Partial Hospitalization Program, who teach these skills
with patience and care.

IMPORTANT
Dime Game is a self-help aid for practicing a DBT skill. It is not therapy, not a medical
device, and not a substitute for professional care. It does not diagnose or treat any
condition. If you are in crisis, contact a mental health professional or your local
crisis line — in the US, call or text 988.
