This book was prepared to help and complete references for Tarbiyah Faculty students in the Philosophy of Islamic Education course. It is hoped that this book can add to the treasures of knowledge, especially the Philosophy of Islamic Education as a basis for the practice of Islamic Education.

In general, the contents of the book are not much different from existing books on the Philosophy of Islamic Education that are already circulating in the country. However, the content of this book is full of nuances of the thoughts of classical Islamic figures who have succeeded in establishing the practice of Islamic education in the ancient times. Therefore, it is hoped that this book will become a supporting reference that can be used as a guide in building Islamic educational institutions that are truly Islamic in the future.

This book was prepared through the development of the syllabus for the Philosophy of Islamic Education course in the 1998 National Islamic Higher Education Curriculum. Therefore, it is hoped that this book can be used as a lecture material for students or lecturers, especially at the Tarbiyah Faculty, both at UIN, IAIN , STAIN, and other Islamic Universities and Colleges in the Philosophy of Islamic Education course.

Many parties have participated in the completion of this book. Especially to Mr. Sahkholid Nasution, S.Ag., MA. Thank you to those who agreed to edit this manuscript.

Likewise, the author expresses his deepest thanks to the entire family; my husband and children, for their attention, affection and patience, so that this book can be finished.
