Terrariums are aquarium-like tanks, usually made of glass and plastic materials, in which the land environment is simulated for reptiles, insects, and some plant species. It is decorated in different sizes according to the creature to be contained.

Ward's plants, who had a passion for botany, could not survive in London, the industrial city of the time, which had a polluted atmosphere. After a while, Ward stumbled upon healthy plants growing in his jars with soil residue inside. This coincidence led him to develop the modern terrarium, also known as the Wardian Case. Terrariums were later used to sustain tropical plants and animals that needed high humidity that would normally be difficult to maintain indoors.
