About Compass

Compass points north. It opens straight onto the dial, already turning.

The card is engraved and turns under a fixed index, the way a real compass
does: what you need to read is always at the top. The reading is
tilt-compensated, so it works with the phone in your hand and not only flat on
a table.

• Bearing in degrees and in words: 212° · South-west
• Animated compass rose with the classic red north needle
• Mark a bearing and follow it: the app tells you how far to turn, and buzzes
when you are on it
• Honest warnings: it says when the magnetic field is disturbed by metal or
magnets instead of pretending everything is fine
• Haptic feedback you can switch off

What Compass does not do:
• no account, no sign-up
• no location: the bearing is magnetic north, computed on the phone
• no servers of ours: sensor readings never leave the device

Permissions: Internet (ads only) and vibration (the haptic feedback). The app is
free and paid for by ads: a banner at the bottom, away from the controls, and an
occasional full-screen ad only after you got what you came for.

On a device with no magnetometer Compass says so plainly instead of showing a
needle that spins at random.
