It is a generally flattened lateral vegetative plant organ that develops from buds on the leaf stem or in the nodes of the lateral branches. Its main task is photosynthesis but transpiration (sweating) and gas exchange.

A leaf consists of three main parts: lamina (palm), petiole (stem), and base (base).

Leaf Alternate: Alternating. The presence of a leaf in each node and a certain angle between the leaves. It is common in angiosperms.

Leaf Opposite: Reciprocal. It is the situation where the leaves come out opposite each other in the plant body. An example is the leaves of the Ailanthus (Smelly tree).

Leaf Decussat: Opposite cross. It is the situation in which a pair of leaves appear mutually on each podium but are rotated 90º relative to a couple of leaves on the next node below.

Leaf Verticillate: Annular, circumferentially arranged. It is the circular arrangement of many leaves on a podium. For example, members of the Rubiaceae (Rootaceae) family can be given.

Leaf Imbricate: Tile-like, with overlapping. It is the arrangement of the leaves in the form of fish scales or tiles on top of each other.
For example, it is seen in most Cupressaceae (Cyphyllosis) family members.

A leaf vein is a formation that occurs when the vascular bundle from the stem spreads on the leaf surface.

Netted, netted. It is the situation where the veins are distributed in the form of a network in the leaf blade.
