The Pontiac Firebird is a sports coupe American muscle car produced between 1967 and 2002.
The Pontiac Firebird was produced in four different generations in total. It can easily be confused with the Chevrolet Camaro, its twin model, from which the Firebird is directly derived. Their chassis is of the "F-Body" type, and some parts are almost identical between the two brands' models.
The Pontiac Firebird's beginnings date back to 1954 when General Motors developed the GMC XP-21 Firebird I. The design of a vehicle resembling a small airplane on wheels significantly influenced the creation of the first Pontiac Firebird, produced in 1967.
The 1st Generation Pontiac Firebird had 285 and 325 horsepower with six or 8-cylinder engine options.
To produce a more efficient version of the Pontiac Firebird, Trans AM engineers have entirely developed the vehicle and launched it under the name Firebird Trans AM.
The 2nd Generation Pontiac Firebird was also completely redesigned in 1970. The overall design was shared with the Chevrolet Camaro, but unlike the previous generation, many of the body elements were mismatched. The Pontiac Firebird had rounded wheel arches, while the Chevrolet coupe had square tops. The bumper was made from a single piece of "Endura" plastic; the line was so successful it looked like it was made in a particular factory in Modena.
The 3rd Gen Pontiac Firebird didn't have much in common with the previous two. His understanding, born long after the oil crisis, was completely different. It was lighter and more aerodynamic. At that time, the body was in one piece, so the whole was more solid. The headlights are folded down; the windshield is more fluid.
The 4th Generation Pontiac Firebird would improve the aerodynamics of the third generation and the so-called "frog eye" headlight. The latest generation will use two engines: the 5.7 L LT1 V8 (350 ci) with 280 hp and the 5.7 L V8 LS1 (346 ci) with 305 hp. It uses an LT1 engine.
