After the 1323 Treaty of Nöteborg, most of Finland became part of Sweden. Five hundred years of Finnish history is familiar to Swedish history. Finland was Sweden's buffer zone to the east, and its borders have changed many times for different reasons.

1543 The first Finnish alphabet book was published in Finland.

In 1640 Finland's first university was established in Turku.

In 1860 Finland received its currency, the markka.

Finland's 1812, Helsinki became the capital.

After about 1995, economic development began in Finland. One of the most important companies is the mobile phone manufacturer Nokia.
