In 1974 KTM participated in the motocross championship. KTM won its first title, Gennady Moisseev's 250cc Motocross World Championship.

In 2003 KTM decided to sponsor road races in various capacities, with the most successful results in the supermoto group. Until 2003 and 2009, the KTM team had successful experience in motorcycle Grands Prix 125 cc class and 250 cc class races in 2005 and 2008.

KTM is best known for producing off-road bikes and excels in that business. The best-selling versions are Motocross, Cross-Country, Enduro, and Free Ride.
