About TuckAway: Read Later & Listen
TuckAway is a read-it-later app: articles stay on your phone, saved for offline reading and ready to listen to like a podcast.
SAVE FROM ANY APP
• Share a link to TuckAway and the share menu closes at once. The link is saved before anything downloads, so it is never lost: every article shows whether it is queued, downloading, ready, failed (with the reason), or kept as a link only.
• Downloads retry on their own and can wait for Wi-Fi.
• "Paste and save" reads the clipboard only when you press it, and shows you what it read.
• Add tags as you save, or later from the article.
• Already a member of a news site? Open it in TuckAway's built-in browser, sign in on the site's own page with your existing account there, and save what that account shows you.
READ OFFLINE
• The article is cleaned on the phone: text and pictures, without the menus and banners.
• Multi-page articles are joined; right-to-left text reads the right way.
• If the cleanup missed something, try the other extraction method — it works from the page as it was saved, even offline — or download again.
• Font size, line spacing, justified text, a true-black theme, light / dark / follow-system, paged reading, and volume keys to turn pages on e-ink readers.
• Highlight passages and find them all in one list.
LISTEN
• Listen to articles: your phone's own text-to-speech voice reads the article aloud with the screen off, from the lock screen and from headset buttons.
• Each article is read in its own language when your phone has that voice; if it doesn't, TuckAway tells you which one is missing instead of reading in the wrong accent.
• Speed in 0.1 steps, a sleep timer that stops at the end of a sentence, a queue that moves on to the next article, and it remembers the sentence you stopped at.
• Tap any paragraph to start listening from there.
YOUR LIBRARY, YOURS
• Full-text search across everything you saved, on the phone.
• Archive, a bin you can restore from, and select-many for bulk actions.
• Moving from another read-later app? Import a Pocket export (CSV or the older HTML), Omnivore export ZIP, Instapaper CSV, browser bookmarks, or a plain list of links. At the end you see how many were imported and which failed.
• Export the whole library whenever you like to a folder you choose: a ZIP with the articles, pictures, tags and highlights, plus a spreadsheet of links other read-later apps understand.
WHAT TUCKAWAY DOES NOT DO
• No sync between devices, no browser extension, no save-by-email. Each of those needs a server, and TuckAway has none — which is also why it never asks you to sign in.
• It does not get past paywalls. A paywalled article saves only what your own login lets you see.
• Cleanup can be imperfect on tables, recipes and social-media posts; the other extraction method and "download again" are there for that.
• The voice belongs to your phone's text-to-speech engine. How it sounds and which languages it reads depend on the engine you have installed.
• Android's automatic backup gives each app 25 MB. Your links, tags and highlights fit; the article text does not, so after restoring to a new phone the text downloads again.
• Pages that build themselves with heavy scripts may save as a link only; saving them from the built-in browser usually works.
PERMISSIONS
• Internet: only to download the pages you save and the pages you open in the built-in browser.
• Notifications: the listening controls on the lock screen. Listening works without them.
• Media playback in the background: so reading aloud continues with the screen off. A notification shows the whole time.
No storage, contacts, location, camera or microphone permission.
PRIVACY
No account and no server of ours. Your library, tags, highlights and reading positions stay on your phone. No analytics, no crash reporting. Privacy policy: https://basilja.github.io/touchoff-privacy/privacy/tuckaway/
