About Culprit
Some food doesn't agree with you. Working out which food is the hard part.
Culprit is a photo diary for exactly that. Take a picture of your meal, give it a name, and afterwards write down how you felt — bloated, headache, fine, full of energy. Look back over a few weeks and the food that keeps appearing before the bad days is your culprit.
Available in 13 languages, and everything stays on your phone.
It was built for people who have been told to keep a food diary and don't want to weigh everything: working out a food intolerance, an elimination diet, IBS or IBD triggers, migraine triggers, or a stomach that misbehaves for no obvious reason.
THE JOURNAL
- Photograph a meal in one tap — the camera opens on the back lens, framed for a plate, with a torch for dim restaurants
- Write how you felt afterwards, at the moment you felt it
- Everything grouped by day, so you can see what came before a bad afternoon
- Edit anything later. A diary you can't correct is a diary you stop using
- Print or share a report of any period — a week, a month, or any number of days up to a year. Take it to your doctor
DIET WARNINGS, WITHOUT GUESSWORK
Choose what you follow and Culprit warns you when a food doesn't fit. 19 diets: halal, kosher, Tayyibat (the Good Food System), vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian, paleo, keto, carnivore, SCD, Low FODMAP, and no gluten, dairy, nuts, shellfish, eggs, nightshades, added sugar or caffeine.
It is honest about what it can't know. Pork is never halal, and it says so. But whether meat was slaughtered correctly, or a tomato was raw or cooked, depends on preparation — and there it tells you it depends rather than pretending.
A FASTING TIMER
Choose 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 or 23 hours, or set your own. A live count shows how long is left, and it keeps running if you close the app. Add a fast you already did, too, since most fasts are never timed. It's a timer, not a taskmaster — it never nags.
A CALORIE CALCULATOR THAT DOESN'T PRETEND
341 everyday foods. Tap what you ate, count it in whole items — one banana, one slice, one cup — and get a total.
What makes it different: it shows a range. Not "947 calories" as though that were measured, but "≈ 945, likely between 770 and 1,155". A food table cannot know how much oil was in the pan. Cooked and dry foods are listed separately, because 100 g of dry rice and 100 g of cooked rice are nowhere near the same thing.
No internet needed. No AI guessing.
DAILY BALANCE
Enter your height, weight and age once, add your steps, and see roughly whether you ate more or less than you spent. It shows a range, says "too close to tell" when the two are near, and tells you how many meals you logged — because it can only count what you recorded.
YOUR DIARY STAYS ON YOUR PHONE
No account. No sign-in. No server. Your photographs, meals, notes and symptoms never leave your device — we couldn't read them if we wanted to, because we never receive them.
Culprit is free, with a single small banner that never blocks you from logging a meal. One payment removes it forever, if you'd rather. No subscription.
THIRTEEN LANGUAGES
English, Arabic, French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian, Turkish, Hebrew, Chinese, Japanese, Hindi and Russian, with right-to-left support for Arabic and Hebrew. Choose your own colour, light or dark, and larger text if you need it.
Culprit is a diary, not a doctor. It doesn't diagnose anything. If food is making you unwell, please talk to a doctor or dietitian as well — and bring your diary with you.

What’s new in Culprit
Food names are now translated into all 13 languages, including the regional dishes added recently. You can now fill in a day you forgot to log: the Balance screen lists your unlogged days and you can type in roughly what you ate. Leave it blank and the day stays out of your totals, as before. A short welcome screen now explains what Culprit is for.
