PerliFile

PerliFile is a file manager and an archive handler in one app. Browse every folder on your phone and your SD card, and open zip, 7z, rar, tar, gz, bz2, xz, zstd and the rest as if they were folders — extract what you want, or select anything and compress it in two taps.

There is no account, no sign-up and no server of ours. The app works on the files on your device. It sends us no analytics, no crash reports and no usage data. Apart from its own update check, the only thing it contacts is Google AdMob, for the ads.

A REAL FILE BROWSER
- Internal storage, SD cards and USB drives, with free-space figures
- Common folders — Downloads, Documents, Pictures, Music, Movies, DCIM — one tap away
- Recent locations, recent files and bookmarks
- List or grid, thumbnails, sort by name, size, date or type
- Copy, move, rename, delete, new folder, new file, with a progress sheet you can cancel
- Trash instead of delete, and restore from it
- Search by name, type, size and date — inside archives too
- Properties: size, counts, MIME type, permissions, MD5 and SHA-256
- Open with any app, share, install an APK you downloaded

EVERY ARCHIVE
- Opens zip, 7z, rar (RAR4), tar, tar.gz, tar.bz2, tar.xz, tar.zst, tar.lz4, tar.lzma, gz, bz2, xz, zstd, lz4, lzma, .Z, deb, rpm, ar, cpio, jar, apk and arj listings
- Browse an archive like a folder and extract only the files you want, to the same folder, a new folder named after the archive, or anywhere you choose
- Preview text and images inside an archive without extracting
- Creates zip, 7z, tar and every compressed tar, plus single-file gz, bz2, xz, zstd, lz4 and lzma
- Password-protected zip and 7z, both ways
- Test an archive's integrity
- Long extractions keep running while you do something else

THE DEFAULT HANDLER
Set PerliFile as your default for archives and folders: tapping a download notification, an attachment or a zip in any app opens it here. Settings has a button that takes you straight to Android's "Open by default" page.

ON DESKTOP TOO
The same app runs on Linux, with tabs, a dual-pane view, drag and drop and keyboard shortcuts — and it can be your desktop's default file manager and archive handler there as well.

ADVERTS
• A Google AdMob banner on the Places, Recent, Search and Settings screens, and now and then a full-screen ad after an archive has been extracted or created, pay for the free app. No ad is ever placed in the file browser or over a copy, move or delete. Ads are served by Google AdMob, with your consent where the law requires it.

ABOUT PERMISSIONS
A file manager needs to see the whole disk, which on Android is the "All files access" switch. PerliFile asks for it the first time you open it and explains why; you can decline and still browse your photos, videos and music. Your files never leave the device.
