About Downbeat: Metronome & Tuner
Downbeat is a metronome and chromatic tuner for practice, from Moonlet Labs.
Metronome
Set any tempo from 30 to 300 BPM by turning the dial, dragging the slider, using the plus and minus buttons, or with tap tempo. Choose a time signature from 1 to 12 beats over 4 or 8, with common ones such as 3/4, 6/8 and 7/8 a tap away, and tap any beat to accent it. Add eighth notes, triplets or sixteenths, and pick the wood, click or beep sound. A swinging pendulum and beat dots show the pulse, and an optional screen flash helps in loud rooms.
Steady timing
Every click is scheduled on the phone's audio clock rather than a screen timer, so the beat stays even. The metronome keeps playing with the screen off or while you read music in another app, and its notification has slower, pause and faster buttons. If you practise with Bluetooth headphones, which play the click late, the latency setting delays the pendulum and flash so they line up with what you hear.
Presets
Save a tempo with its time signature, subdivision, accents and sound under a name, and bring it back in one tap for each piece or exercise.
Chromatic tuner
Play or sing a note and Downbeat shows the nearest note, its octave and how many cents sharp or flat you are, on a smooth needle that turns green within 5 cents. An optional strobe ring helps with the last few cents. Set the reference pitch from 415 to 466 Hz, and switch to B-flat or E-flat transposition for instruments such as clarinet, trumpet or saxophone. It reads from the low E of a bass guitar up to C7, so it works as a guitar, bass, ukulele, violin, viola or cello tuner, and for wind and voice. It listens only while the Tuner tab is open.
Privacy: no account needed. Everything works offline. The tuner asks for the microphone the first time you open it; audio is analysed on your phone and never recorded, stored or sent, and the metronome doesn't use the microphone at all. The app is ad-supported: ads are served by Google AdMob, which may use the advertising ID. Moonlet Labs collects crash reports and usage analytics through Google Firebase, linked to pseudonymous app identifiers rather than your name or email. Where the law requires it, the app asks for your consent first, and privacy choices are in Settings. Privacy policy: moonletlabs.com/privacy.html
