Fairy Faith: Folklore Calendar

A brownie at the hearth, a piskie on a Devon lane, the Good People on a May evening. Fairy Faith explores the fairy folklore of Britain and Ireland through the words of the people who collected it.

Read a different record each day, follow the old calendar of between-times, and keep local stories in your own private field notebook.

241 RECORDS, SEVEN REGIONS
Explore tales, customs, beliefs and rules from Ireland, Scotland, Wales, the Isle of Man, Cornwall, Devon and England. Every record names its region, collector, work, year and reference. Search the collection and filter it by region, or save a record to return to later.

THE YEAR OF BETWEEN-TIMES
Follow May Eve, Midsummer Eve, Hallowe'en and other dates in the folk calendar. Read the records attached to each day. Solstices, equinoxes and full moons are calculated on your device and shown in your local time. Optional reminders arrive on the eve of a calendar date.

MEET THE FOLK
Browse 16 kinds of fairy and 14 themes of customary behaviour: brownies, selkies, kelpies, piskies, knockers, the Tylwyth Teg, iron, rowan, fairy food and more. Each modern summary leads back to the source records.

THREE VOICES, CLEARLY LABELLED
RECORD gives the collector's words. COLLECTOR identifies a collector's claim or explanation. MODERN marks the app's own introductions and reading notes. Twelve articles explore the collectors, fairy trees, the calendar, Cottingley and the history behind the beliefs.

YOUR FIELD NOTEBOOK
Write a place name, choose a date and time, and record a story in your own words. Read, edit or delete your notes. The notebook stays on your device, is excluded from backup and has no sharing feature. Place names are entered by you; no location permission is needed.

READ AND RETURN
Adjust the reading size, jump to the top or bottom of long texts, and add the daily record widget to your home screen. Share a source record as an image with its attribution and a link to the app.

The collection and calendar are bundled for reading without a connection. All content and notebook features are available without a purchase. The app contains ads; an optional one-time purchase removes them.
