The second generation of the BMW 8 series, produced as a successor to the legendary BMW E31, consists of the BMW G14 cabriolet, BMW G15 coupe version, and the BMW G16 four-door Gran Coupe sedan version grand tourer models. The G14/G15/G16 generation has been produced since 2018 and is often referred to collectively as the G15.
BMW 8 series started to be produced with turbocharged V6 petrol and diesel, V8 petrol engines. All BMW 8 series models have all-wheel drive and 8-speed automatic transmission.
The BMW 8 series met with its fans in 2019 with the M8 models it produced. It was introduced with the F91/F92/F93 body types. This model used the twin-turbocharged BMW S63 V8 petrol engine.

The convertible version of the BMW 8 series (G14) was launched in November 2018. The convertible has a cloth roof that can run up to 50 km/h (31 mph) and folds down in 15 seconds. Early models for the convertible included the M850i xDrive and 840d xDrive. The convertible is 100 kg (220 lb) heavier than the coupe.
