This treatise specifically explains several benefits of Surah Al-Fatihah. This is a very great surah. This surah is called surah Al-Fatihah because it begins the noble mushaf. So surah Al-Fatihah is the first surah in the mushaf.
This surah is called as-sab' al-matsani (seven verses read repeatedly) because it consists of seven verses. Allah Taala said, "Indeed We have given you seven verses to recite repeatedly and the noble Koran." (QS. Al-Hijr: 87). So surah Al-Fatihah is as-sab' al-matsani.
Some say: This surah is called al-Matsani because its reading is repeated in each rak'ah.
This surah is called ummul qur`an (mother of the Koran) because the meaning of the parent of something is the subject to which something returns to it. The Koran returns in its meanings to the content of this surah.
Surah Al-Fatihah is also called prayer. Based on the words of the Prophet—sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam—in the hadith he narrated from his Lord—jalla wa 'ala.
Allah said, "I divided the prayer into two halves between Me and My servant." Namely Surah Al-Fatihah.
When the servant says, "Al-ḥamdu lillahi rabbil-'alamin (All praise to Allah, Lord of the universe)," Allah says, "My servant praises Me."
