From an etymological perspective, al-ahad jama' comes from ahad, which means one. Ahad hadith means a hadith narrated by one person. As for terminology, the Ahad hadith is a hadith which in its narration does not reach the limit of mutawatir.
This understanding includes both one thabaqoh and every thbaqoh, and also includes hadiths narrated by two, three narrators or more as long as it does not reach the limit of mutawatir.
Ahad hadith is a hadith whose number of narrators does not reach the number of mutawatir, does not meet the requirements for mutawatir, and does not reach the degree of mutawatir.
This is stated in the rule of hadith science: "Hadith that does not reach the level of mutawatir."
What is meant by the Sunday hadith according to the terms of many scholars, among others, is as follows:
"Hadiths whose number of narrators does not add up to the number of mutawatir hadiths, whether the narrators are one, two, three, four, five or so on from numbers which do not give the meaning that the hadith - with that number - is included in the mutawatir hadith."
There are also scholars who define ahad hadith briefly, namely hadith that does not meet the requirements of mutawatir hadith, hadith other than mutawatir hadith, or hadith whose sanad is valid and continues until it reaches its source (the Prophet), but its content gives the meaning of zhanni and does not up to qath'i and yaqin.
Abdul Wahab Khalaf stated that the hadith ahad is a hadith narrated by one, two people or a number of people, but the number does not reach the number of narrators of the mutawatir hadith.
