The Rally Championship (WRC) is an automobile race held in various countries worldwide. It started for the first time in history with the Monte Carlo Rally of Monaco, the land of auto racing, in 1973.

The World Rally Championship was created from well-known international rallies that were part of the International Manufacturers' Championship (IMC), held from 1970 to 1972.

But in 1973, the World Rally Championship was the inaugural season under the WRC's name and kicked off with the Monte Carlo Rally on 19 January.

The first manufacturer won the world rally championship with the Alpine A110 model, produced in cooperation with Alpine-Renault.

The World Rally Championship wanted to be included in the race in all-wheel drive Group B cars in the 1979s. FISA legalized all-wheel drive in 1980, but most manufacturers believed it was too complex to be successful.

A separate Group A Rally championship was held in 1986 as part of the WRC, and Swedish Kenneth Eriksson won the race with a Volkswagen Golf GTI 16V.

For the 1997 World Rally Championship, the World Rally Car regulations ushered in a new Era intended to replace Group A. The vehicles were renewed entirely in terms of technical features and added a different color to the races.

Sébastien Loeb, the driver for the most titles in rally championships, holds the record for the most victories by winning the tournament 80 times.
In the championship list, Sébastien Ogier is second with 54 wins, and Marcus Grönholm is third with 30 wins.
