About Chabaka: Café Arrow Words

Chabaka is the crossword corner of the Moroccan café of Ronda 3D, Hez Jouj and Dama & Chess — in its own light app with nothing else: a newspaper on a café table, a pen, and grids.

THREE NEWSPAPERS
• In Arabic: كلمات مسهمة, clues and answers in Arabic, the grid reads right to left like in the dailies.
• In French: classic mots fléchés, short clues in the grey cells, arrows pointing to the answer.
• French to Arabic: the clue is the French word, you write its Arabic translation. To learn, and to revise.

THREE LEVELS, CHOSEN BEFORE YOU START
• Easy: a small grid and common words.
• Medium: the newspaper grid, the one from the café.
• Expert: a big grid and less common words, for those who want a challenge.

WRITTEN BY HAND
Every letter you type is written on the newspaper by a ballpoint pen, in blue ink, stroke by stroke — and the pen moves away at once to let you see the grid. Correcting a letter means white-out, then the new letter on top. The sound of the pen on paper is there, and it can be muted in one tap.

EASY WITH A FINGER
The clue of the current word is shown large at the top; an Arabic or AZERTY keyboard with big keys at the bottom; “Check” marks wrong letters in red; a button opens the grid flat, full screen, pixel-sharp, where you pinch to zoom. No letters are given away: every word is yours to find. The current grid is saved: you pick it up where you left it.

THE EXPERTS LEADERBOARD
A clock runs while you are in the grid. When it is finished, your best time enters the experts leaderboard — one per newspaper and per level, the fifty fastest. No account to create: a name is enough.

THE CAFÉ
The setting is Qahwa’s, the café of the three games: the round table, the zellige, El Haj Brahim at his counter with his tea, and the café radio. The app speaks Darija (Arabic script) by default, French or English if you prefer.

Grids come from our server: new ones arrive without updating the app, and the last ones played stay on the phone to play offline.

Chabaka is free, supported by ads (a banner and, now and then, a full-screen ad at the end of a grid); consent is asked where the law requires it and can be changed in the settings.
