About VeggieCheck

Vegetarian or not? VeggieCheck tells you in seconds. Scan a product's barcode or take a photo of its ingredient list – the app checks every ingredient and shows a clear result: vegetarian, not vegetarian or please check.

MADE FOR VEGETARIANS
• Finds hidden ingredients from slaughtered animals: gelatin, animal rennet, carmine (E120), isinglass, lard, meat extract, fish and more
• Rennet in cheese: animal rennet is flagged, microbial or vegetable rennet counts as vegetarian, rennet of unknown origin is marked "please check"
• Milk, eggs and honey are fine – VeggieCheck also shows whether a product is even vegan
• Shows vegetarian and vegan labels from the packaging

FOUR WAYS TO CHECK A PRODUCT
• Barcode: looks up the product in Open Food Facts, the free open food database
• Photo of the ingredient list: works even for products that aren't in any database. The text is recognized right on your phone
• Name search: no barcode at hand? Just type the product name
• Package photos: if the ingredient list is missing, VeggieCheck reads it from existing package photos and marks the result "according to package photo"

HANDY WHEN SHOPPING
• Vegetarian alternatives for products with meat, fish or gelatin
• Ingredient lexicon: gelatin, carmine, rennet and E-numbers explained
• Allergen warnings (gluten, milk, egg, nuts, soy and more) plus your own warning list
• History, favorites and shopping lists with prices and notes
• Statistics, levels and achievements, flashlight, manual code entry, dark mode, backup & restore, 21 app languages

FREE, NO ACCOUNT NEEDED
VeggieCheck is free and unlimited and needs no account. It is financed by ads. The camera is only used to read barcodes and ingredient lists; images are not saved or uploaded.

Product data comes from Open Food Facts (ODbL) and is maintained by a large community. If in doubt – especially with allergies – always check the packaging. Product missing? Add it to Open Food Facts right from the app and help everyone.
