Metascrub: Metadata Remover

Every video, song and photo carries more than you can see: where and when it was recorded, on which phone, and sometimes your name. Metascrub shows you exactly what a file reveals and removes that hidden metadata before you share it, right on your phone.

PRIVACY SCAN
Pick a folder, such as your Camera folder or an SD card, or your music library. Only file headers are read, so thousands of files take seconds, and findings are sorted into risk cards: videos that reveal where you were, songs that carry your name, photos that name your phone. Each file gets a risk score from 0 to 100, and a location plot, drawn on the device without maps, shows where your files say they were made. Single videos and photos can be added with the system photo picker.

SEE EVERY HIDDEN FIELD
The Inspector lists every field exactly as it is stored, grouped into six kinds: location, device, dates, software, author and personal notes. Risky fields show in red. File names that give away a date or phone model are flagged too.

LOSSLESS VIDEO SCRUB
MP4, MOV, 3GP, M4V, MKV and WebM. Metascrub blanks the data blocks in place instead of re-encoding, so picture, sound and quality stay exactly the same, rotation is kept, and a 1 GB video is done in a few seconds. GPS tags, recording dates, phone model, encoder and comments go.

MUSIC AND AUDIO TAGS
MP3 (ID3v1, ID3v2 and APE), M4A and AAC, FLAC, OGG, Opus and WAV (INFO, BWF and iXML chunks). Comments, cover art, lyrics, encoder names and private frames are removed. The free preset Keep music basics keeps title, artist, album and track number and clears the rest.

PHOTOS TOO
For JPEG, PNG and WebP, EXIF, XMP and IPTC data, GPS coordinates, camera serial numbers and hidden thumbnails are removed, while the color profile and orientation are kept, so pictures stay upright. HEIC files are inspected and saved as a clean JPEG, clearly labelled as converted.

VERIFIED CLEAN
After every scrub, Metascrub reads the new file again with the same Inspector and searches it for traces. The report reads "0 location, 0 device, 0 dates, 0 author left", or marks the file Partial and names what remains. It never shows a clean result it cannot back up.

SHARE CLEAN
In your gallery or file manager, tap Share, choose Metascrub, then Send clean. A clean copy goes to the app you pick, the original is not touched, and temporary copies are deleted after 24 hours. Several files work too, with no ads in this flow.

YOUR ORIGINALS ARE SAFE
• Clean copy is the default: a new file is saved to Movies, Music or Pictures/Metascrub, and the original stays as it is.
• Replace original asks Android for permission first, with one system dialog for a whole batch. If anything fails, the original is restored.
• No access to all files. Metascrub reads only the files and folders you pick, plus your music library.
• Works offline. No account, no uploads; your files stay on your phone.

WHAT IT CANNOT REMOVE
Metascrub removes hidden data, not what can be seen or heard. Faces, street signs, voices, visible watermarks and burned-in timestamps stay. Services you upload to may record information of their own.
