What It Calls - API Checker

That GitHub AI tool says it is "free", "open source" or "fully local". What does it actually call?

What It Calls reads a GitHub repository's code and shows, as plain facts, which external APIs the tool calls. No scores or verdict labels — just the lines of code that prove it and where the pricing comes from.

HOW TO USE
Swap github.com for whatitcalls.com in a repository address, or paste the address into the app and tap Check. A repository that was already checked opens right away; a new one is checked on the spot.

FOUR STATES
- Uses external APIs — the core features call an external API
- Uses external APIs, local option available — external APIs are used, but there is also a way to run it locally
- No external API found — no external calls were found in the checked scope
- Needs review — not enough evidence to say either way

ONE PAGE PER REPOSITORY
- What works without an API key
- Each external API's company, endpoint and pricing source
- What data leaves your machine
- Gaps between the README and the code
- Evidence links pinned to a commit
- Check scope (how many files were read)

BROWSE
Recently checked repositories, repositories by use (coding agents, image/video/voice, documents and research, and more), and the external APIs that show up most often.

CORRECTIONS
If a result is wrong, pick the item and request a correction. We review it and fix the result.

WHO IT IS FOR
- Anyone who installed a "free" tool and was asked for an API key first
- Teams that must know where data goes before adopting an open-source AI tool
- People looking for tools that run entirely on their own machine
