About Chord Graph: Music Theory
Chord Graph is a music theory app for Android that shows how chords relate to each other, so you can see harmony instead of memorizing it. It has 11 interactive views, a 90-lesson course with quizzes, a chromatic tuner and a daily challenge, and it works offline.
What you can do
• See the circle of fifths as four rings, with the relationships between chords drawn in
• Explore 11 views of the same harmony: circle of fifths, modulation tree, radial modulation tree, augmented web, diatonic, Tonnetz, progressions, modal interchange, voicings, modulation paths and the Playground
• Build your own chord progression of up to 16 steps in the Playground, with next-chord suggestions, tempo and looping
• Follow a 90-lesson music theory course in six levels, from what a note is to scales, intervals, cadences, modes, secondary dominants and modulation, with a 3-question quiz at the end of each lesson
• Tune guitar, bass or ukulele with a chromatic tuner that works through the microphone, with an adjustable A4 reference
• Take the daily challenge: 5 music theory questions, the same for every player on the same date, one attempt a day, with a streak counter and longest streak, an emoji-grid result you can share without spoilers, an optional reminder and a practice mode
• Connect a MIDI keyboard in Live mode and the circle of fifths follows the chords you play; with the microphone it follows single notes
• Use all 24 keys, with note names in letters (C-D-E) or solfège (Do-Re-Mi), in light or dark theme
Who it is for
Pianists, guitarists, bassists, ukulele players, songwriters and music students, from beginners to advanced. You do not need an instrument or a music background to start. It runs on Android phones and tablets with Android 7.0 or later.
How it works
1. Pick one of the 24 keys.
2. Tap a chord to hear it and see where it can go next.
3. Switch views, build a progression in the Playground or follow a lesson.
Common questions
How does the circle of fifths work in Chord Graph?
It has four rings, with the relationships between chords drawn between them. Tap any chord to hear it and see where it can go next.
Do I need an instrument or a music background?
No. The course starts with what a note is and goes on to modulation, modes and advanced harmony, and every chord plays when you tap it. A piano or guitar helps but is not required.
Does Chord Graph work offline?
Yes. The lessons, quizzes, sounds, tuner and all 11 views are bundled in the app. Only usage statistics, crash reports and performance data use the network.
Can I use it as a guitar tuner?
Yes. It is a chromatic tuner that works through the microphone, with Guitar, Bass and Ukulele modes and an adjustable A4 reference.
Can I connect a MIDI keyboard?
Yes. In Live mode a MIDI keyboard makes the circle of fifths follow the chords you play (3 or more notes). Without one, the microphone follows single notes only.
Which languages does it support?
English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Simplified Chinese and Russian, chosen from the system language or in Settings.
Privacy
There are no accounts, no ads and no in-app purchases. Progress and preferences stay on your device, microphone audio is analyzed on the device and never recorded, and only usage statistics, crash reports and performance data are collected, tied to a random app-install ID and not to you.
