CoCaptain: Sailing Logbook

A ship's log that pulls its weight: CoCaptain records your voyage, keeps the logbook and holds boat, crew and safety together in one place. Built by sailors for sailors – clearly laid out, even in a swell with wet hands.

TRACKING AND LOGBOOK
Start recording and CoCaptain draws your track on the chart. The trace is coloured by propulsion, so you can see at a glance where you sailed and where you motored. You can add log entries yourself – position, course, speed, weather and sea state are filled in for you. Casting off, engine on and off, tacks and gybes are detected automatically and written to the log. Every time is shown twice: UTC and local.

CHARTS
OpenSeaMap nautical charts on top of OpenStreetMap, plus official layers such as NOAA and EMODnet bathymetry. Whatever you have already loaded stays available offline.

BOAT AND SUPPLIES
Several boats with hull data, rig, engine and systems. More than 100 production yachts are in the catalogue, so you don't have to type in the basics. Refuelling and taking on water are logged as events, and from those CoCaptain works out tank level and remaining range. Maintenance jobs with intervals and due dates belong here too.

CREW AND SAFETY
An address book of everyone who has ever sailed with you; for each voyage you pick who is aboard. The watch plan rotates automatically to the watch length you set, and handovers go into the logbook. Checklists for casting off, berthing, man overboard and emergencies, plus safety briefings you can walk through with the crew and tick off. Each crew member signs the liability waiver right on the screen, and the consent appears in the export.

ANCHOR ALARM
Drop the anchor, choose a radius – or draw the alarm outline freely around the boat when the berth isn't round. An early warning contour sits inside the alarm line. It runs alongside recording and can also alert a second device.

KNOW-HOW ABOARD
The sail trim advisor gives concrete recommendations for main, headsail and control lines based on wind and point of sail. The radio assistant explains standard calls and distress procedures, translates radio traffic, and includes DSC operation for common VHF sets from nine manufacturers – so you can find the button you need when it matters.

INSTRUMENTS
NMEA 0183 over TCP or UDP and Signal K: wind, depth, speed through water, heading and position come straight from the boat's network into the dashboard and the log.

LOOKING BACK AND EXPORTING
Statistics on nautical miles, hours under sail and under engine, day's run and peak values – per voyage and across all of them. Export the logbook as a PDF with chart, statistics and crew list, or as an Excel sheet to work with further. Anyone following from home gets a link and watches the voyage live, no account needed.

ACROSS DEVICES
With an account, voyages, boats, crew and tracks follow you across iPhone, Android and the browser. Without an account everything stays on the device and works offline.

WHAT'S FREE
Recording, logbook, charts, checklists, crew, watch plan, anchor alarm and the trim advisor are free as long as you work on your own device. Multi-device sync, live following, NMEA instruments, official chart layers and PDF/Excel export are part of CoCaptain Pro.

CoCaptain is not a substitute for official charts or a navigation system. Responsibility for course and safety remains with the skipper.
