Les Utopiales

Both a public event and a gathering of professionals, Les Utopiales is considered the most important science fiction event in Europe and, globally, the second largest science fiction gathering after San Diego Comic-Con.

Building on the legacy of Jules Verne and the city's surrealist past, Les Utopiales established itself in Nantes' cultural landscape at the very beginning of the new century. Since its inception, the festival has been committed to expanding imaginations by inviting the public to discover the world of future prospects and emerging technologies. Beneath the guise of dreams and escapism, science fiction is a powerful tool for exploring reality and anticipating the future. It is with this sincere conviction that each edition is conceived.

The Utopiales festival brings together scientists, researchers, authors, screenwriters, illustrators, directors, and all those who, day after day, shape fantastical worlds from fragments of reality, transforming them into genuine thought experiments that awaken our curiosity and cultivate our imagination.

Each year, a chosen theme fosters dialogue between literature, scientific research, film, comics, visual arts, role-playing games, video games, and manga, giving rise to diverse reflections and offering a unique perspective on our past, present, and future.
