About Kanji Aloud

Kanji Aloud is a voice-first Japanese reading and recall trainer. See a Japanese prompt, speak its reading aloud, and receive visual, sound and haptic guidance. Start with N5 for free. N4, N3, N2 and N1 are available as separate one-time purchases. Buy only the courses you want: one purchase neither requires nor includes another level. There is no subscription. Users who obtained the earlier free App Store version keep their included courses. If access is missing, use Restore Purchases with the same Apple account. Learning progress is preserved when you update. Follow a lesson path, then return to due and difficult cards through spaced review. Tap a kanji to explore its associated words, readings, meanings and example sentences, with reference audio. Looking things up does not change your study results. When you miss an answer, see and hear the reading, then try the same prompt again. Ask for meaning and examples when you need help. Session controls remain available on screen; manual practice is available when microphone access is unavailable. Features include: - Clear Today, Library and Progress tabs - N5–N1 course paths with sequential lesson progression - On-device answer matching, with Flexible and Precise options - Spaced review across accessible, unlocked study material - Word and example-sentence reference audio - Optional hands-free meaning, replay, skip, pause and resume commands - Optional Tokyo Japanese pitch guides and pitch practice - Adjustable session length, pace, voice guide, sound and haptic feedback - Local-first progress and optional private iCloud sync - Optional Apple Game Center milestones and friend leaderboards Pitch practice offers contour feedback without changing the reading result or spaced-review grade. It is not a native-likeness, mora-timing or sentence-intonation assessment. Kanji Aloud is an independent study aid. JLPT level labels are study estimates; the modern JLPT does not publish fixed official vocabulary or kanji lists. This app is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Japan Foundation or Japan Educational Exchanges and Services. Use hands-free features only when it is safe. Never use the app while driving, cycling, crossing a street or in any situation that requires your full attention.
