About Downshift: Breathing Exercises

Downshift offers guided breathing exercises for the moments you feel tense or stressed — box breathing, 4-7-8, resonance breathing and the physiological sigh — plus progressive muscle relaxation, a body scan and, with a watch or tracker, a daily nervous-system reading from your Apple Health data. Breathe along. Follow the animated orb through guided patterns: the Physiological Sigh, Resonance breathing, Box, 4-7-8, and more. Gentle haptics mark every inhale and exhale, so you can do it with your eyes closed. Build a daily rhythm. A simple daily checklist of evidence-based habits — morning light, movement, a caffeine cutoff, a steady bedtime — with a streak to keep you going. See your progress. Log your tension morning and evening and watch the trend over time. Let go of physical tension. Guided progressive muscle relaxation walks you head-to-toe. On your wrist and your Home Screen. A standalone Apple Watch app with guided breathing, complications, and your reading at a glance — plus Home and Lock Screen widgets. Yours, and private. Your Apple Health data stays on your device. Your notes sync privately through your own iCloud — no account with us, no servers of ours, no tracking. Ever. Free to download and use. No ads. Downshift supports everyday wellbeing and is not a medical device or a substitute for professional care.

What’s new

Version 2.7 · Updated October 19, 2026

• Programs: save several breathing patterns, and chain them into sequences. Find them on the Breathe tab, under Programs. • How today feels: a daily check-in on the You tab, shown when "Save how your day feels" is on in Settings > Apple Health. Saving to Apple Health as State of Mind is optional and off by default. Downshift only writes it, and never reads it back. • Sessions finished on Apple Watch are now logged on iPhone too: minutes, day streak and the day's habit. Resonance can also use the pace you chose in "Find your pace" on Apple Watch. • Siri and Shortcuts now work in all 11 app languages, with actions for every breathing pattern, Body Scan, Muscle Relaxation, Stillness and the tension check-in. • Live Activity: pause, resume or stop a session from the Lock Screen. Body Scan and Stillness now have one too. • Export your data as JSON and CSV in Settings > Privacy & data. Every logged session is listed in Session history, under Your stats on the You tab. • "Start a breathing break" is now an action on reminder and nudge notifications. "All notes" in the Journal opens the full history for everyone. • Fixes for moments where the app could briefly freeze, and for the timing of audio cues.
