About EXIF.ER: Photo & Video Renamer
EXIF.ER renames your photos and videos after the moment they were taken, so they sort in order in Files, on a computer or in a backup, whatever device they came from. Pick photos and videos from your library and EXIF.ER saves renamed copies to a folder in Files; the originals stay in your library. Or choose a folder and rename the files in place, or copy them somewhere else. A name can be as plain as 2026.07.14_09h00m00s or as detailed as you like. Build your own from the date, time, camera, lens, location, original name, a counter and a tag, or start from one of 34 ready-made formats. Before anything changes, Preview shows every new name, and which files will be skipped and why. Copies can go into year and month folders, and a setup you use often can be saved as a workflow. You choose the time zone names are written in, and whether files without a capture date are skipped or named by their file date. EXIF.ER reads dates from EXIF and video metadata, in HEIC, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, DNG and other camera RAW files, and MOV and MP4 videos. Nothing is re-encoded: only the name changes, so quality and metadata stay as they were. Nothing is uploaded, and nothing tracks you. Files kept only in iCloud download through Apple when a job needs them, unless you turn that off. For Live Photos and RAW+JPEG pairs from Photos, the main photo is exported. It also runs natively on iPad and on iPhone Duo, folded or unfolded. Free, with no ads or subscriptions. Optional tips support development and unlock nothing. EXIF.ER 4.0 is the biggest release yet! It now does a lot more: New devices - EXIF.ER now runs natively on iPad, in any orientation, with screens laid out for the larger display. - Ready for iPhone Duo, folded or unfolded. A new design - Every screen is rebuilt, from Home to the results, with clearer setup and progress. - Pick your colors in Settings: nine palettes, from black and white to lagoon and indigo. - A new app icon, made for Liquid Glass, that looks right in light, dark, clear and tinted. - Thumbnails of your photos and videos now appear throughout the app, including in job reports and previews. Hold one to see it full size; videos play while you hold. - Large text sizes no longer cut words off, and VoiceOver reads clearer labels throughout the app. Naming - Make your own filename patterns from building blocks: date, time, camera, lens, aperture, location, original name, a counter, your tag and more. Try a name on one of your photos or videos before you save it. - 10 new ready-made formats. - Your own patterns now sit at the top of the list, and formats with camera and file details have their own group. - Videos are named from the dates and details they record. Organizing - Preview Photos library exports before they start, as you already could for folders. - Sort copies and exports into year and month folders automatically. - Folder copies now carry the capture time as their file date, like Photos exports. - Open the Files app straight from a finished job. Reusable workflows - Save a pattern, tag and destination as a workflow and reuse it. Keep as many as you like. Running jobs & Live Activities - Jobs and iCloud downloads now keep going in the background, with progress on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island on supported devices. - Choose whether jobs download files that are only in iCloud. - Issues are grouped by cause, and History keeps each job's details and saved filenames.
