Sawline is a feet-inch-fraction construction calculator for framers, carpenters and the trades. It holds feet, inches and fractions exactly, as rationals rather than decimals, so the numbers close instead of drifting a sixteenth at a time. Set the display resolution anywhere from 1/2 to 1/64.

Enter a run and a pitch and it returns the rafter, the rise and the diagonal. Enter a total rise and it returns the risers, the treads, the stringer and the angle. Hold any key to see what it does, with the formula and a worked example. Open any result to see the math with your own numbers substituted in.

For framers and roofers
Pitch as ratio, angle, percent or slope. Enter any two of rise, run, diagonal and pitch, and the other two solve. The HIP/V key gives the length of a hip or valley where both roofs share the pitch, with its plan run, its angle and the backing bevel.

For stair builders and remodellers
Enter the total rise and the STAIR key gives the risers, the riser height, the treads, the tread depth, the total run, the stringer length and its angle, one press at a time. Add the run you have and the flight is solved to fit it. When it cannot fit, the app says so and names the change that makes it fit. A code report against IRC 2021 or IRC 2024 checks riser height, tread depth and how much each varies, showing actual against required with the section number on every line.
