About Ishiriniya Fassarar Boko

Ishiriniya Fassarar Boko brings you the Ishriniyyat (al-‘Ishriniyyat), the celebrated odes in praise of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ by the Andalusian poet Abu Zayd ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Fazazi (d. 627 AH), recited for centuries in gatherings of remembrance across West Africa.

The Arabic is set in the Warash (Maghribi) script that readers in Nigeria and West Africa learn in Qur'anic school, with a translation in Hausa (in Latin letters, "boko"), French or English.

There is one ode for each letter of the Arabic alphabet, and every verse begins and ends with that letter. The odes are given with their takhmis: each original verse is led in by three added lines, making stanzas of five. The original verse is shown in green.
