Pocket Tunes plays the music that is already on your phone. No account, no subscription, no ads, and no tracking.

Most new Android phones ship without a working local music player. The default option wants you online, stops playing your own downloaded files after a few minutes offline, and pushes a subscription. Most alternatives are stuffed with ads or buried under menus. Pocket Tunes does one job properly.

WHAT IT DOES

• Finds your music automatically
Scans your device on first launch and lists every audio file it finds — MP3, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG and M4A — with title, artist, album art and duration. Sort by title, artist, recently added or duration. Rescan any time you download something new.

• Plays without getting in the way
Play, pause, skip, and scrub. Controls on your lock screen and in your notification shade. Keeps playing with the screen off. Shuffle and repeat (off / all / one) that stay set the way you left them.

• Playlists that make sense to you
Create as many as you like and name them whatever you want — Gym, Road Trip, Love, Breakup. Add and remove songs, rename, delete. All stored on your phone.

• A real ringtone trimmer, built in
Pick any song, see its waveform, drag the start and end handles to the exact part you want, preview it, and set it as your ringtone, notification tone or alarm. No second app, no file manager, no website.

• Search
Find anything in your library by song title, artist or album.

PRIVACY, PLAINLY

No accounts. No sign-in. No ads. No advertising ID, and no tracking across apps. Your music, playlists and preferences stay on your device — they are never uploaded.

The app connects to the internet for exactly one thing: anonymous crash reports, so bugs can be found and fixed. A crash report contains the error, your device model and Android version, and nothing that identifies you. It never contains your music or your playlists. Full details in the privacy policy.

WHAT IT DOESN'T DO

No streaming. No cloud sync. No sign-in. No ads. If that's what you're after, this isn't the app — and that's the point.

PERMISSIONS

• Audio files — to find and play your music.
• Notifications — to show playback controls on your lock screen.
• Modify system settings — asked for only when you choose to set a ringtone, and used only for that.
• Internet — only to send anonymous crash reports.
