Paired Parent

Paired Parent is the parent's companion app for a child's Android phone or tablet that runs Paired Parent. It is not a standalone app: it works only after it is paired with that device, and does nothing without it.

The child's phone is set up with Paired Parent before your child uses it. We set it up before we ship it, or you set up your child's own phone at home with Paired Parent Connect, our installation program for Windows and Mac. Then you pair this app by scanning the code the child's phone shows.

NOTHING IS HIDDEN FROM YOUR CHILD
Paired Parent is for parents and legal guardians supervising a phone they provide to their own child. It is not for watching another adult. The child's phone always shows that it is supervised: its lock screen says it is managed by Paired Parent, and a Paired Parent notification stays on it the whole time supervision is on.

TEXTS AND CALLS
• Texts are screened automatically. When one looks like it needs a parent, you get an alert with the conversation around it for context.
• With contact approval on, only people you've approved can text or call. Anyone new waits for your eyes first.
• See recent calls, including those that were blocked.
• Quiet hours hold texts overnight, while the people you grant an exception to can always get through 24/7.

APPS AND SCREEN TIME
• They can browse the app stores, but anything your child installs stays closed until you say yes.
• Give each app a daily limit or allowed hours, pause it, or block it. Add extra time when they've earned it.
• Pause every app with one tap, or set a quiet time each night. The phone, clock and alarm keep working during those quiet times. Or you can set a separate quiet time for the calling functions.

WEBSITES
• Pick a filter level, then allow or block any site yourself. Your child's phone can't switch the filter off.
• See which sites were looked up over the last five days.

PLACES
• Add geofences around places like school or home and get a notification when your child arrives or leaves.
• Find the phone right now with one tap, or make it ring if it's lost.
• Your child's phone reports arriving and leaving, or gives an instant location when requested, not a trail of everywhere they've been.

FAMILY AND SECURITY
• A second parent can pair their own phone, with their own alerts.
• Add a brother or sister in the same app and swipe between them. Each has their own settings, or you can block websites for all.
• Your PIN keeps the controls on your child's phone yours, and you hear about it if someone keeps entering the wrong PIN.
• When your child is ready, release the phone, and it becomes an ordinary phone again.

PRIVACY
Messages, contacts, locations, browsing history and your settings are encrypted between your phone and your child's. Our sync server passes them along and can't read them. If you choose to share the messages you review to help improve the screening, we receive those, with phone numbers and email addresses removed. Showing a street address sends the position to Mapbox, which also draws the map. The privacy policy explains how texts are screened and lists what each company receives.

WHAT YOU NEED
• Your child's phone or tablet, set up with Paired Parent and covered by a Paired Parent subscription.
• Your own Android phone running Android 12 or newer.
• Paired Parent is offered only in the United States, to adults.
