The name Wainuiatea has been used for this app as it draws on the app's underlying purpose and also has a special connection to the name of KPMG's internal Māori and Pacific Island rōpū, Kiwa (Te Moana Nui-ā-Kiwa — The Great Ocean of Kiwa).

Translated literally, Wainuiātea means a vast-unobstructed body of water.
