About Backing Track Maker

Your band in your pocket: chords, bass and drums to jam over.

Backing Track Maker plays a real backing band for your practice. Pick a progression or write your own, choose a style, a key and a tempo, press Play: piano, bass and drums play it in a loop, and the screen shows the chord you hear, the next one and the scale to improvise with. Every feature is free.

WRITE THE PROGRESSION
• A grid of bars with one or two chords per bar.
• Choose chords by degree (I, IV, V, ♭VII…) or by name, or just type them: F#m7, Bb7/D, C13.
• Major, minor, 7, maj7, m7, m7♭5, dim7, sus4, 6, 9, 13, ♯9, slash chords and more.
• Common progressions ready to play: 12-bar blues, jazz blues, minor blues, ii–V–I (also through all 12 keys), simplified rhythm changes, I–V–vi–IV, I–vi–IV–V, Andalusian cadence and more.
• Change the key in one tap: the whole grid moves with it.

12 STYLES
Pop, Rock, Blues shuffle, Funk, Jazz swing, Jazz walking, Bossa nova, Ballad, Reggae, Country, Salsa and Waltz. Each style has its own drum groove, comping rhythm and voicings, and bass line: boogie bass in the shuffle, walking bass with chromatic approaches in jazz, root–fifth in bossa and country, tumbao-style bass in salsa.

A REAL BAND
• Sampled grand piano, electric piano, organ, guitar and string pad for the chords.
• Electric, upright or synth bass; four drum kits plus ride, crash, shaker, congas, cowbell and clave.
• Voice-led chord voicings: the chords move smoothly, as a keyboard player would play them.
• Timing runs inside the audio engine, sample by sample: rock-steady at any tempo, no drift.

PRACTISE BETTER
• Tempo 40–240 BPM, one-bar count-in.
• Loop the whole song or only the bars you are working on.
• Suggested scale for every chord: pentatonics, blues scale, modes (Dorian, Mixolydian, Lydian…).
• Tempo trainer: speeds up a few BPM every N loops.
• Mixer: volume, mute and pan for chords, bass and drums; one tap to mute your own part (guitarist, bass player, drummer, keyboard player).
• Change the progression while it plays: it starts with the next loop.

SAVE AND EXPORT
• Save your songs on the device.
• Export audio (WAV) mixed as you hear it, or a MIDI file with chords, bass and drums on separate tracks.

PERFECT FOR
• Guitarists, bass players, keyboard players and singers practising improvisation.
• Learning the blues, jazz standards forms and pop progressions.
• Practising scales and modes over real changes.
• Music teachers and students.
