TrailLog: Hiking GPS Tracker

Tap one button when you head up the trail. TrailLog records the path you walk, exactly as you walk it.

No sign-up and no complicated setup. Once you start recording, your route keeps saving even with the screen off or a weak signal in the mountains. When you finish, you see your distance, time and elevation gain at a glance, and you can export every hike as a standard GPX file to use in other map apps and services.

■ One-tap route recording
• Before you start, TrailLog checks location permission and GPS status, then starts as soon as it has a fix.
• Recording continues with the screen off or while you use other apps, with an ongoing notification.
• Pause while you rest and resume when you set off again.
• If the app closes unexpectedly or your phone shuts down, your hike is not lost. Reopen the app to keep recording or save it.

■ What you need on the trail
• Distance, moving time, total time, total ascent and descent, current elevation, average and max speed
• Time left until sunset and battery level, so it is easier to decide when to head down
• See the path you have walked and your current position on the map. Choose a hiking map with contour lines and trails, or a standard map.
• Save waypoints for places worth remembering, such as summits, junctions, water sources, rest spots and viewpoints.
• A lock mode prevents accidental taps in your pocket, and the stop button needs a long press so a hike never ends by mistake.

■ Built for accurate records
• Filters out low-accuracy fixes and GPS jumps so distance stays close to what you actually walked.
• On devices with a barometer, pressure altitude is used for steadier elevation gain.
• Choose Precise, Standard or Battery saver recording to match anything from a short walk to a long ridge traverse.

■ Keep and share your hikes
• Add a title, mountain name and notes to each hike, then look back at it on the map and elevation profile.
• Touch the elevation profile to see that point on the map.
• Browse hikes grouped by month, with your total number of hikes, distance and elevation gain.
• Save as a standard GPX 1.1 file or share it right away.

■ Your data stays on your phone
• Location is used only while you are recording. TrailLog never asks for background location access.
• All records are stored only on your device and are never sent to a server.
