About Vietling – Learn Vietnamese
Vietling helps you learn Vietnamese vocabulary and actually remember it.
The 1,218 words in the app were picked based on how often they’re used in real conversations. So you learn the words you’re most likely to hear first, instead of spending your time on words you might never use.
Every word comes with an example sentence and audio you can replay as often as you like — made ahead of time with a studio voice model, not your phone’s built-in text-to-speech.
Two ways to study
Learn is where you pick up new words. You’ll see a word, choose it from four options, and then use it in a sentence with a missing word. You don’t just tap “correct” and move on — you actually have to remember how to use it.
Review is for the words you’ve already learned. The app uses spaced repetition to bring words back when you’re likely to forget them. Sessions are short and focused. No pointless games or a bunch of stuff getting in the way.
There are also short video lessons on the alphabet and the six tones, each with a quiz, so you know what you’re listening for.
Made for Southern Vietnamese
Vietling focuses on Southern Vietnamese — the kind of Vietnamese you’ll actually hear in Saigon and the Mekong Delta.
That means words like dạ, hẻm, nha, heo, rather than automatically teaching you the Northern versions you’ll often find in textbooks.
Vietnamese also doesn’t really have a neutral equivalent of “you”. What you call someone depends on things like their age and your relationship with them.
So Vietling asks your age once and uses that to teach you the kinship terms that make sense for you — including what you’d call someone older than you, younger than you, and what they would call you back.
There’s a little pet
Your pet grows as you keep reviewing.
There are eight pets to choose from, a weekly league with other learners at your level, streaks, and friends you can add with a code or a request.
None of that is required, though. You can just open the app and study.
Your progress is backed up
When you finish setting up, Vietling makes an account for you automatically — no email or password needed — so your progress is backed up and you can join the weekly league.
Other learners see your display name, profile picture, pet and weekly XP, and nothing else. You can delete the account from inside the app at any time.
There are no ads and no analytics.
And reminders follow when you actually study. You pick a time when you set up, and once Vietling has seen when you normally study, it moves the reminder to just before then.
It works offline
The words, example sentences, and audio are all included in the app.
So you can use Vietling on a plane, on a train, or somewhere with absolutely no signal.
You just open it and study.
